Located on the River Dee and contained within a two mile ring of medieval walls, Chester is one the UK’s best loved heritage cities and a great destination for a short coach holiday break.
The City of Chester
The city has a unique character, defined by stunning black and white Tudor buildings that make up the ‘Rows’ and the hundreds of stores and boutiques in the city centre that surround the beautiful Cathedral and imposing gothic town hall building which nestle amongst the cobbled streets. The Eastgate clock, which forms part of the Roman walls, is also a central feature of this beautiful city and has emerged as a popular landmark with visitors. In fact such is its popularity that it is now recognised as the second most photographed clock in the UK after Big Ben.
The river is only a short walk away and is great a place to enjoy a leisurely stroll, enjoy an ice cream or watch the world go by on a gentle boat cruise. Away from the city centre you can also find Chester Zoo, the UK’s number one zoo where you can see over 8000 animals, including elephants, rhinos, giraffes, lions and jaguars.
